Government vs Army

Its a tale of two countries, two governments, two Generals and very much similar two problems..these countries are neighbours and Nuclear capable...
In any country the Government and Army are the two major institutions of power. In fact they are the main power centres of any country. In our country the Army and our democratically elected government show a great understanding. But for some days there are some misunderstandings between Military chief Gen.VK singh and the central government. The misunderstanding is about the date of birth of Army chief. If we look at the version of Gen. singh he says that his date of birth is May 10, 1951.Where as the government says that the actual DoB is May10, 1950. If the version of government is assumed correct then general Singh has to retire in May this year.

But if the General's version is right then he can serve as an Army Chief for more one year. This rift of DoB emerged and came into light recently when Gen. VK singh's tenure neared to end.Gen.Singh moved to Supreme court against this 'misunderstanding' of Central government. This is the first time when when an Army chief aproached apex court against Centre.

This is the case in India. If we look into the political developments in our neighbouring country Pakistan there are many similarities. In Pakistan we have seen that government and its Army stood opposite to each other on the issue of a 'Secret Memo'. This memo became a Scandal and got the name 'Memogate'. As a nearest neighbour India is more expressed concerns on the developments in pakistan.

Pakistan's Prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and President Zardari with other cabinet colleagues recently had a meeting with Pak Army chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. The political leadership of Pakistan clarified the doubts of Army chief about the Secret Memo. Actually the Memo gate involved the United States as a third partry.Political leadership tried to impress the Army with good will gesture. In the case of Pakistan it is a historic fact that the democracy lied fragile.Where as in the case of India the Army-Government row is of domestic nature and no other country is in no way involved. Here Supreme power is democracy and in Pakistan democracy is on the mercy of Army.

But interestingly these two Nuclear capable neighbours are facing  the similar problem i.e.,rift between Government and Army....We hope, on both sides the problem will be resolved very soon....Long live Democracy.....
